About Happy Mappy

What is Happy Mappy?

Happy Mappy is an Open Source Dynamic Map that is ever-changing and flowing. Happy Mappy wants to bring communities together and make sure that people see all of the amazing experiences and learning opportunities on offer in their local area.

Happy Mappy was born in August 2021 in Ryde, Isle of Wight as part of an Action Research project hosted and facilitated by Mr Alexander Sabine (University of Portsmouth) as part of his Doctorate in Education.

Who is Happy Mappy for?

Happy Mappy is for everyone. Happy Mappy is Happy because it is Free to use and to contribute to.

Where is Happy Mappy?

Happy Mappy is hosted as a Google Map and uses an Open-Access Methodology to highlight organisations who all have one thing in common: a responsibility and a passion to provide information, education and contribute to individual and collective well-being.

Who owns Happy Mappy?

You do! Happy Mappy is Free Open Source Public Data, which means that any organisation or individual can add to the map and promote it, provided, of course, that they abide by the Happy Mappy Vision: To Enhance Communities by Building Bridges, Not Barriers.

So how is Happy Mappy different from Google Maps or a promotional site?

Happy Mappy was built with an ethical intention for organisations to work together, share and care for each other. Happy Mappy was designed specifically to support educators in Ryde, Isle of Wight, to know what their community has to offer. It was actually launched as part of an Action Research thesis.

Too often commercial competition and the perceived amplification of threat leads individuals and groups to be motivated only by fear. Simply put, Happy Mappy wants to change that by providing an open-source way of tracking inter-organisational links, resource sharing, opportunities for co-production and, most importantly, open offers for schools and education providers to engage with all that their community has to offer :-)

It is just like Google Maps, but with more detail and filtering for lifelong learning and civic educational offers.

That sounds great, but I want to know even more...
